The Greener the Grosser

“I’ll bring a homemade vegetarian lasagna with organic goat cheese.”

“Well, I’ll be bringing a vegan broccoli salad with organic soy beans.”

“Oh yeah?  WELL… I’ll be bringing a home-grown, homemade organic vegan fruit salad with tofu roasted over an all-natural fire made from eco-friendly recycled wood chips along with pure natural spring water that we personally climbed to the highest mountain to collect ourselves and store in clay pots that we personally…. blah blah blah….”.

What?  Is this a “race to the greenest”?

Well, in that case, we’ll be bringing along a roasted chicken that we pick up at Safeway and some plastic forks and disposable plates.

Yes.  We’re the rebels.

Yes, we’re homebirthing hippies, we eat organic, and we recycle.  But we have no intentions of competing for the greenest at our Bradley Class Reunion today.  It’s ridiculous.

Someone explain to me why “homebirthers” and “natural-birthing” is synonymous with “vegan, green, all-organic, etc…”.  And why on earth is my inbox flooded with emails RSVPing with intentions to bring dishes that get more and more “organic and green” as each person responds?

Seriously, people.  No wonder America thinks we’re freaks.  It’s not the fact that we do it without drugs, it’s the fact that we shove our organic lifestyles in other peoples’ faces so hard that it’s nauseating.
