Chocolaty Chocolate… With A Pinch Of Crack

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Much to (I’m sure) my husband’s utter dismay, my latest obsession is, well, pathetically domestic.

I’m almost embarrassed to admit it, but dammit, the latest batch turned out so freaking heavenly that I simply must spread the love.

Behold, my most recent reason for being:

book

Oh yes.  Martha Stewart.  And cookies galore.  Every kind of cookie you can possibly imagine.  I got it at Costco a couple weeks ago, and now I’ve been bitten by the oh-my-gosh-I-have-to-make-another-batch-of-cookies-or-so-help-me-before-I-try-to-eat-you-instead bug.

My first attempt to make something out of the book were everything the picture promised.   The first batch of Snickerdoodle dough I have ever made:

I was a little concerned they wouldn’t turn out well because the dough was just so runny, but I was proven gloriously wrong.  Martha Stewart knew what she was doing:

Well, after that, I was hooked.  See those incredible-looking cookies on the front cover of the book?  Well, that was going to be my next attempt.  Some sort of chocolately gingerbread cookies with chunks of chocolate.

But, that particular cookie takes some serious commitment and two days to make.

I’m just not that disciplined.  *Sigh of defeat*.

And plus, my fresh ginger had been in the freezer since my homebirth (don’t ask), so it wasn’t really… um, fresh nor edible.

I thought the book may have gotten the better of me after only one round of sugary sweetness.  I was ready to throw in the towel and just go back to the perfect-with-only-one-memorable-fail chocolate chip cookies I usually bake.  But then, this recipe caught my eye:

I had to.  I couldn’t resist.  Every chocoholic’s Achilles Tendon. Even Julie, who is terrified of the mixer (she must have been an egg-turned-omelet in another life), wanted a piece of the good-housewife-cookie-making action:

Again, I was a little concerned because the dough was too sticky and gooey to roll into perfect little balls (I’m an anal German, can you tell?):

But alas, once again, the blessed Martha Stewart proved me wrong.  The result?

Let’s just put it this way:  After they came out of the oven, there was complete silence coming from my way.  Out of my chocolate-induced coma/heart attack/brain aneurysm near-death-gone-to-heaven experience, I heard James’ voice.

“Tamra?  Are you still with us?”

I give the book my blessing.

Those cookies are simply the chocolaty chocolate goodness wrapped and dipped in chocolate.  Surrounded by chocolate.  With a pinch of crack.

God help me, I’m going to gain 20 pounds.
