My Little Helmet Head
Today my little scooter-patooter finally got her helmet.

Awww, doesn’t she look so cute?
In case you missed my previous posts about this, April has moderate-to-severe Positional Plagiocephaly. Which in plain English translates to: she has a crooked head.

It was hard for me to get a clear shot of her head because she has too much hair for it to be noticeable unless it’s soaked down, but I filled in her head shape with an obnoxious shade of yellow to give you a clearer picture:

Not the perfect job, but you get the gist of how her head is asymmetrical by 13mm.
Anyway, after a month and a half of waiting for insurance to get back to us, helmet fittings, and the reoccurring fear Oh my God, my kid’s face is going to end up on the side of her head before this whole process is over, we finally picked up our latest child-torture-device.

She will have to wear it somewhere from 4-6 months or so depending on how quickly she responds to the treatment. Hopefully, once the helmet is off, she will have a decreased problem with developing ear infections on the right side, and the cranial bonding will help her avoid vision and dental problems caused by having a “flat spot” on one side of her head later in life.

Something tells me she’s going to get used to it pretty quickly, even though her initial reaction was a wide-eyed what-the-hell-is-this-thing-doing-on-my-head look followed by a loud get-this-damn-thing-off-of-me holler while patting it with her little chubby hands.
Don’t worry, honey, it’ll come off once we get your little head straightened out.

That’s so cute. You can tell from the bath picture something needs to be done so I’m glad your insurance accepted it. Adam’s flat spot is almost gone, I’ve just been putting him to sleep on his stomach and that seems to be enough for him. How many hours a day does she have to wear it? Did you get to pick the design on it? I’m sure when she’s ten and doesn’t have a crooked head to worry about, she’ll appreciate it.

OMG IT HAS BUTTERFLIES ON IT! and its’ blue. i love butterflies, and the blue is so PRETTY. that is one absolutely adorable, pretty awesome helmet. and i’m not even being overly dramatic. i actually feel that way. if i had to put Evie in one, i would definitely have picked that one. just think of it as another “when my girl was a baby…” story you’ll be able to tell your friends when empty nest syndrome is setting in, and you’re girls are off being all independent and grown up. i wish she and Evie could switch hair for the next 4-6 months so you wouldn’t feel so bad about her hair being smushed. she looks adorable.

Samantha- over the course of the next week, she will work up to wearing it 23 hours a day. And yes, I picked the design! Isn’t it so cute! I saw the blue and the colorful butterflies and was like… yup, gotta have that design!
Jessica- LOL on the swapping hair idea. Yeah, they had two different butterfly designs, and I totally had to go for the blue one. The other was a purple-pink, but the butterflies were all shades of purple and pink. I totally had to go for the more colorful one!
