A Happily Given Donation

Yesterday, I looked something like this:

long-hair

Yup.  That was me.

Today?  Well, I look a little different.  The brain transplant went really well.  I turned out something like this:

short-hair

I decided that for the first time in my life, I needed short hair.  The result?  Light, flippy, and sophisticated instead of long, messy, and a pain in the ass.  I love it.

Let’s take another peek, shall we?

Luckily, my hair was long enough to donate to Locks Of Love, so after my super cool hairdresser chopped off my ponytail, I felt good knowing that somewhere, a child going through a rough time will soon have a head full of hair.  I feel kind of warm and gooey inside thinking about that, although I must admit that the pictures on the website kind of make me want to blubber into a tissue.

I figured I’d feel kind of sick the moment I heard the scissors take a giant *snip* on the back of my head, but I was wrong.  In fact, the only thing I felt was excitement.  Wow, I wasn’t expecting that.  Although, I suppose the fact that I’d just gotten an hour massage probably helped calm me down before the big chop-off.

However, the fact that I’m a natural borderline redhead is slightly disconcerting to me, considering the fact that I didn’t think of myself like that until I saw the pictures of my hair recently.  But that’s okay.  I’m still a brunette… *cough*… okay, a closet blond.

So yup, that was my secret.   Only three people (including my husband and sister) knew that I was planning on doing it, so my family is in for quite a shock when they see me.  Considering, you know, my hair used to be down to my ass before it made its next forever-stop at mid-back.  It hasn’t been short since, well, before I was one.  In case you were wondering, I was born with a head full of thick, long black hair.

And my other secret, which I didn’t mention before, has to do with a new piercing I’m planning on getting.

But you’ll have to wait to hear where.

    Tamra –

it looks great! Looks great on you since you’re so skinny…my best friend has the same cut and I got a wanna-be version of it…but stupid hair stylist didn’t do it like yours like I wanted it.

    Looks great!

So cute!! I’ve been checking in via my phone all day to see what you did! I kind of did the same thing last night, but instead, I’m blond again!!

btw…piercing??? i’m thinking about piercing my navel. but i’ve already had it done 3 times, so i’ve gotta think really hard about it.

Wow it looks beautiful! You look younger with the short hair cut, not that you look old either way but the shorter cut looks much more fun! I chopped my hair off after our wedding ceremony last march (we were married before that, just didn’t get around to the ceremony until then) but mine wasn’t nearly as short as yours; You’re brave!

Nice! I’ve wondered what Liz would look like with short hair…

Piercings: hmmph. I grew up around a lot of Army kids, so I’ve got their instinctive belief that getting pieces of metal in your body was a Bad Thing. Yeah, if you didn’t grow up knowing what the Fulda Gap was (and why you lived too close to it) or why the autobahn dividers looked oddly temporary on the straight stretches, or saw Checkpoint Charlie before it was in a museum… but I digress.

FANTASTIC! I wish I was gonna see you in person tonight. I’ll have to wait till I come home next week. Thought of you today while I was in Vancouver, WA – and it was storming!

I LOOOVE it! You looks so excited and refreshed! I haven’t had my hair cut since January, now I’m extra motivated. It is always such a strange feeling the first few times I wash my hair after getting a few inches cut off, the realization of how much is gone finally hits home. The donation idea is great too :)

  13. Sarah Says:

BTW, how did the kids react?

  14. deanna Says:

I love it, too. And by the way. . .totally off subject, but I love watching you and James dance! It’s inspiring to me. Last night, I told my dad to watch you two. . .Watching me dance 3 weeks post partum is painful for me to imagine right now!

  15. Kim Says:

    Very cute! Love it!

  16. Tamra Says:

Sarah… Julie was like, “Mommy! Your hair looks cute!” And April kind of looked at me and laughed. Not sure how to take that… :-D .

Deanna- thanks! Don’t worry, the second one will probably be easier for you to recover from than the first. It took me 6 weeks before I braved the dance floor after Julie, and only 2 weeks after I had April.

Jessica- I never took my navel piercing out during both of my pregnancies!

Jim… oh come on, you know you want your nipples pierced.

Everyone else- thank you! I’m loving my new ‘do!

  17. Devin Says:
