I woke up in kind of a grumpy mood because the cicadas were buzzing, the sunlight was streaming in through my window, and the horny doves were cooing for some male bird to come do them.
After a minute, though, I had to smile and get out of bed because we had a really wonderful trip to Seattle and I couldn’t wait to load all the pictures I took with my badass camera onto my computer.

Although I was slightly disappointed that it was sunny and warm when we arrived on Friday, the heat in Washington is very different than that of Tucson. Because if you didn’t know, holy shit, the city actually sits right next to water. Actual water. LOTS OF IT! Imagine that.

We enjoyed hanging out at the Seattle Center before running clear across town to catch the fireworks over Lake Union (don’t ask about the running clear across town part), and Julie loved riding the Merry-Go-Round.

It was absolutely beautiful, and we spent our time taking advantage of the cool breeze and actually took the kids to Point Defiance Park in Tacoma during daylight hours because it wasn’t too hot to be outside.

If you’ve never been there, you simply must drop everything, catch a flight, and go there now.

The park holds the most incredible rose garden I’ve ever seen.

And of course, they can grow more than just roses in a place that rains more than 10 days a year.

My girls loved playing in the grass…

And picking flower petals…

And laughing at my water-soaked ass…

I don’t think I’ve ever seen my husband more relaxed than he was on this vacation.

We took this trip with the intention of getting a better feel for the city to make sure that moving there is a jump we really have the guts to brave. For people who have never actually moved, this is more like a leap across the Grand Canyon on a unicycle. Much to my relief and excitement, James didn’t want to leave. He felt as ‘at home’ there as I do.

James watched the girls on Monday night so that I could check out the dance scene at a local blues bar downtown. The west coast swing crowd was as excited to dance with me as I was to be there. It made me feel warm and gooey inside to know that we’re more than welcome to join their group of dancers. They were such a nice group of people, and it was wonderful to see some familiar faces.
In all? It was a great trip. We did meet with a Realtor, but didn’t find any winners… yet. But we will.
And because I can’t resist the cheesy obligatory Space Needle shot, here it is:
