Seattle Highlights

I woke up in kind of a grumpy mood because the cicadas were buzzing, the sunlight was streaming in through my window, and the horny doves were cooing for some male bird to come do them.

After a minute, though, I had to smile and get out of bed because we had a really wonderful trip to Seattle and I couldn’t wait to load all the pictures I took with my badass camera onto my computer.

city

Although I was slightly disappointed that it was sunny and warm when we arrived on Friday, the heat in Washington is very different than that of Tucson.  Because if you didn’t know, holy shit, the city actually sits right next to water.  Actual water.  LOTS OF IT!  Imagine that.

We enjoyed hanging out at the Seattle Center before running clear across town to catch the fireworks over Lake Union (don’t ask about the running clear across town part), and Julie loved riding the Merry-Go-Round.

It was absolutely beautiful, and we spent our time taking advantage of the cool breeze and actually took the kids to Point Defiance Park in Tacoma during daylight hours because it wasn’t too hot to be outside.

If you’ve never been there, you simply must drop everything, catch a flight, and go there now.

The park holds the most incredible rose garden I’ve ever seen.

And of course, they can grow more than just roses in a place that rains more than 10 days a year.

My girls loved playing in the grass…

And picking flower petals…

I don’t think I’ve ever seen my husband more relaxed than he was on this vacation.

We took this trip with the intention of getting a better feel for the city to make sure that moving there is a jump we really have the guts to brave.  For people who have never actually moved, this is more like a leap across the Grand Canyon on a unicycle.  Much to my relief and excitement, James didn’t want to leave.  He felt as ‘at home’ there as I do.

James watched the girls on Monday night so that I could check out the dance scene at a local blues bar downtown.  The west coast swing crowd was as excited to dance with me as I was to be there.  It made me feel warm and gooey inside to know that we’re more than welcome to join their group of dancers.  They were such a nice group of people, and it was wonderful to see some familiar faces.

In all?  It was a great trip.  We did meet with a Realtor, but didn’t find any winners… yet.  But we will.

And because I can’t resist the cheesy obligatory Space Needle shot, here it is:

The only thing I didn’t like about the warm weather there was living in basically a studio apartment with one window and no a/c. It would get so hot that I never slept in the summer there.

Beautiful! Can’t wait for you to move there and for me to come visit! : )

Sounds like you had a great time. I hope you find a house you like soon and can get the heck out of Dodge! :)

“And picking flower petals…” You forgot to say “…and eating them.” Gotta love 10-month-olds.

What a great trip. the 100 degree blast of hot air stepping off the plane in Tucson didn’t really say “Welcome back.” We’d better get back there soon! :-*

I love the picture with your daughter and the marigolds. She has that face like.. what am I smelling? I thought flowers were suppose to smell nice. I have marigolds in my front flower bed to keep the dogs away from my other flowers. My kids call them stinky olds. So glad you enjoyed each other and the trip.

I was jealous of your trip, but after seeing the pictures, I’m beginning to think I’m more jealous of your camera!

Great pictures! I’m glad the trip went so well for you.

Great pictures! I knew you would love Seattle. It is just such a laid back but wonderfully diverse and cultural city. Yes, the weather is bearable! I also rather have rain then unbearable heat! Being on the water is great. I can’t live inland any more because I have spent too much time by the sea or by a decent sized river.
If I ever move back to the states and have a choice on where I move with a job, it would be Seattle. :)

I could have sworn that you said “picking flower petals and eating them”…but after James’ comment I had to go back and reread your blog! I guess it’s such a natural thing for kids to do that I automatically “inserted here” my mental thought, or maybe it’s just my kids that do that kind of thing :) I’m happy your trip went well and that you and your family have found your “home”! It might take you a bit to get there, but that will make your arrival all the sweeter!!!!!!!

Oh wow, these pics are FANTASTIC!
What kind of camera did you get? Oh duh, you probably blogged about it, eh? lol
I could TOTALLY see you guys making a go of it up there in Seattle, that is AWESOME! I get to come visit you there, right? RIGHT?!?! :)

    Misty- it’s a Nikon D40: http://www.surprisinglysane.com/2009/05/22/these-are-a-few-of-my-favorite-things/

    I use two different lenses- a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm.

Maybe I ought to write a blog about how I shoot my photos, huh? LOL!
