An Open Mind Is A Beautiful Thing
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009One of the qualities I respect most about Seattle is the abundance of open-mindedness I find just about everywhere I go.
It’s a beautiful thing. People are so much less judgmental than a lot of other places I’ve been, and I find them to be so much more warm, friendly, and incredible as a result.
If there’s one thing I hate, it’s close-minded, judgmental assholes. It’s a sign of ignorance to think that one size fits all regardless of the issue. Opinions are one thing, but expecting others to feel the exact same way as you is just downright stupid. We all come from different walks of life, cultures, and hardships. Agree to disagree, and do it gracefully.
Trying to convince someone to see something from a different perspective is most effectively done by not acting like an offensive shithead and pointing fingers at people, biting their heads off, and telling them they’re going to hell for their beliefs. Educating people politely is okay. Ripping them a new asshole is not.
People cannot help the way they feel, nor can there be one single answer to a controversial topic.
Celebrate diversity and coexist. An open mind is an attractive, beautiful thing.
