Home Again Home Again Jiggity-Jig

Yesterday I was the Maid (Maiden?) of Honor in my bestie’s beautiful wedding. It was an incredibly full day, plus we headed off to the swing dance club’s annual Christmas party afterward.

The club’s performance team performed the routine that James and I choreographed and taught them right before we moved. They did such a fabulous job that I teared up. I couldn’t be more proud of them. They worked their butts off, loved it, and it made me realize what an impact doing something as non-life-transforming as teaching dance can really make in some peoples’ lives.  Here I always feel a bit guilty because I feel like I should be back in the classroom helping the world be a better place (and all that other cheesy stuff), and seeing yesterday’s performance really showed me… Hey! Wake up! You still can make a positive difference just by doing things you really love.

With all that happened yesterday, I shouldn’t have been surprised that I woke up with my eyes crusted together and a stomachache that forced me to run and sit on my good friend John at least a hundred and fifty-two times before I had the chance to accompany my family for lunch. By the time we got back from the restaurant, my head was ringing and I could barely stand.  Needless to say, the flight home wasn’t much fun.

But now I’m back in Seattle, back in the house I love, and back in my fuzzy turquoise robe sipping tea and spending a little one-on-one time with Ralph. I soaked in my bear-claw bathtub upstairs and my headache and stomach are both feeling a little better. My fingers are crossed that I’ll sleep like the dead and wake up feeling perfect.

One can hope, right?
