Cold Turkey
I’m one of those horrible parents who did what she said she’d never in a million years do and let my kid suck on a binkie just to keep her quiet.
Look, if April was your daughter, you would, too. That girl has THE LOUDEST, BIGGEST, MOST EAR-SPLITTING screech you’ve ever heard, and she’s not afraid to use it. The pacifier keeps me sane in the car, as well as preserves my eardrums. If I go deaf, it’s her fault.
We’ve tried removing the binkie from her a few times, have been fairly successful for a couple days, then relapsed due to illness or company or whatever every time.
Until yesterday, when April lost her binkie while I was at the mall perusing through the clearance racks. It was her last pacifier, and I didn’t feel like stopping at Target and facing rush-hour madness just to get her a new one. Maybe I should have. Last night was like having a newborn all over again, and I had an early morning doctor appointment. Comparing the experience to hell is putting it lightly.
Maybe I’m just mean, but eventually she did get some sleep, and she did wake up in a good mood. I’m sure there’s a much less cruel way to remove a baby’s binkie addiction, but dammit, I just don’t have the patience for it.
Cold turkey it is.

huh. for some reason the “how many sexual partners have you had” poll is popping up, instead of a binkie related one.
i would die without my daughters pacifiers. she has slept through the night *maybe* ten times since the day she was born. she won’t go to sleep without one, and i won’t deny her one… because when she doesn’t have one, it’s miserable. i’ll wean her off it around two years old like i did my son. she only gets it for nap/bed time. or when she’s sick.

as a side note… before i had my son, i always said i’d NEVER give MY kid a pacifier. that changed 2 weeks after he was born. i haven’t looked back since.

LOL… oops… a bug named Julie crossed my blog and added that poll when I wasn’t looking. Scary, huh?

I swore I wouldn’t use them a lot too. And I’m sure you can tell from pics that Adam has his a lot. Right now, I’m not too worried about taking it away from him, I guess I’m just hoping he’ll wean himself as he gets older… Good Luck with April!
