A Poll: Birth Control

You can choose up to two answers because I know that some people use more than one form of birth control on a regular basis.

What form of birth control do you (or does your partner) primarily use?

I voted for both natural family planning and condoms, but we also usually pull out so that would’ve been my third vote. We use condoms every time, but we also don’t have sex on the 4 days of the month I’m *positive* that I’m ovulating. On top of that we also always pull out, unless Caleb’s really caught up in the moment.

I was on ortho tri-cyclen when I got pregnant with Roree — didn’t forget a pill, took them at the same time every day, followed the directions on the packaging, I was just the 1% I guess.

I went crazy on the Nuvaring. I liked the simplicity of it, but it made me ridiculously moody and dried me up down there.

And I’m allergic to spermicide, otherwise we’d probably be using that on top of condoms, pulling out, and charting.

I put “other” because we use a combination of 3 methods. Basically (sorry for TMI) we use nothing for the majority of the time we are “doing stuff” and then when it gets close to the end he puts on a condom. However, we also use the ovulation method because there’s no entry during the “danger days”.

I also looked into the IUD and had the same concerns as you (cramping & heavy bleeding) but it turned out that my OB wouldn’t give it to me because my uterus is WAY too far back (because I wouldn’t be able to do the monthly string check).

I’m procrastinating, but definitely want to get him snipped. He’s reluctant though and only wants to go to a doc that will put him completely under sedation. I told him to sac up and just do it, but apparently that wasn’t the best motivational phrase to go with, considering the topic. ;)

I said natural family planning and other. Mostly because we were just going “no goalie in the net” on purpose, got pregnant with my first son, then I was exclusively breastfeeding and we didn’t care if we got pregnant again. Once my son turned a year old we decided to try, then I got pregnant again right away. So now, when we have sex, there is no form of birth control since I can’t get pregnant while I’m already pregnant!

  4. Stephanie Says:

We use the pill, we would use a condom but TMI here but we have tried every condom out there, but we have never found one big enough to fit him, so that eliminates that. Of course right now he is gone so I am not getting laid at all.

  5. Tamra Says:

LMAO, Stephanie! So my guess is that your man is one of those tall and thin sorts?

Yeah, a guy friend of mine once said (and in a sexy accent, I might add), “It’s no secret.. tall skinny guys are packed like mules!”

    I have to agree ;-D.

  6. Mia Says:

Kyle can’t use condoms either. They cut off circulation and he can’t get off. I still can’t believe that cramping and heavy bleeding are side effects of the IUD. On the pill I get heavier cramps and longer periods (about 7 days). I’m not saying my cramps are non-existent, but they really aren’t that bad with the IUD. That’s one of those cases where everyone is different.

  7. Rikki Says:

We use condoms w/ spermicide and I’m on the pill. It took us awhile to find a condom that worked for Bryan without cutting off circulation, but the Trojan Ecstasy Magnums do pretty well, they are a larger width so they fit better than the regular ones(lol he’d die if he knew I said that)The are comfortable for both of us and it honestly feels like nothing is there.

I won’t get and IUD. They scare me. I’m an “iud baby” my mom got pregnant with me while she had one IN and they tried to convince her to abort me because they swore the IUD would embed in my skull. Thankfully she didn’t listen and the doctors where wrong.

Well before D I took yaz. After D I took yaz, until all the lawsuits came up about being 6 times more likely to get a blood clot. My mother has a clotting disorder, she had a massive heart attack before she was 50 due to her clotting disorder…My grandmother very quickly passed away due to a pulmonary embolism and yaz gives me hellacious leg cramps…not really wanting a blood clot, so we started using condoms…which I HATE. But I’m going to try the trojan ones mentioned above…and yes tall skinny guys are packing…the largest penis I’ve ever..umm…seen (hahaha, I guess I did see it) was on a tall skinny guy…

  9. Kim Says:

I’ve had Mirena for 10 months or so. Periods have gotten lighter to almost none at all – so much so that in the beginning I was scared I could be pregnant again. The procedure caused cramping, but advil took care of that. I don’t notice it at all.

  10. Stephanie Says:

LOL Tamra you called it he is tall and skinny! PS I also had Mirena for awhile but ended up swelling up and getting horrible cramps constantly. Oh and Hubby could feel it poking him too

  11. Does Penis Size Really Matter? Says:

[...] this talk about dick size on my birth control poll suddenly has me wanting real opinions on the issue that concerns every guy whether they want to [...]

  12. a Says:

    i said other
    we are currently ttc
but when we were not it is nfp and condoms (”towards the end”) on days i think i am ovualting
idk how well it really works because i have only used it for 18 months, and for 13 of those i didnt have my period, and i am still nursing as well

  13. Tamra Says:

Ooooo… I forgot to say that before I started the pill, we were big “pull out and pray” fans… well, pull out, throw on a condom, and finish in there, anyway…
